Clinical and Non-clinical Studentships

The course offers a fully-integrated Combined PhD Training Programme for both non-clinical and clinical research students. Three students for each of these will be selected in a single student intake in October of each year.

Non-clinical research students will enter a 4-year programme comprising an MRes Programme that will equip them to select and undertake a subsequent 3-year dedicated research project. This type of training will provide researchers with a strong and balanced launch to their career.

Clinical research students will enter a 3-year programme of study. It is expected that they will have demonstrated commitment to research by intercalating on a BSc or BMedSci degree course such as that offered at the University of Birmingham (link available here).

Integration of all students will be achieved through common training structures, providing non-clinical students insight into Experimental Translational Medicine and the translational relevance of their research, and clinicians access to basic science and relevant research skills.  This integration of both groups is an essential component of the studentships and is further enabled through integration with existing Graduate School programmes.
